On the way to the eclipse of 1999 we sailed through the Bosphorus aboard the Marco Polo.

At the tail end of our 1999 eclipse and cruise trip, after departing the cruise, we spent time in Istanbul before flying back to the states. Istanbul is a city with as much history as almost any other. We managed to visit many of the better known sites and find some interesting entertainment.

Near the center is the Galata Tower, where we had dinner, a beautiful view of Istanbul and the Golden Horn. Grandson Ryan Baker starred in the floor show!

Shockingly, the day of our flight leaving Istanbul was the day of the quake of 98. We were still in the air on the way to connections in Germany when it occurred.
