In the spring of 1998, my grandfather (Gerard) and I took a Caribbean cruise together. The timing and location of the trip was chosen to observe the year's solar eclipse.
From San Juan, we first visited St. Thomas, then Martinique, then Barbados. The next day was the a clear day at sea for the eclipse.
The next stop was the volcanic island of Martinique, with many beautiful views.
Barbados had a lively atmosphere, and attracted the wilder side.
After a day at sea for the eclipse, we visited Sint Maarten (or St. Martin in the French north). St. Martin is the smallest island to be occupied by two nations.
